pajama part-ay

so, avery has been staying with us since thursday while her parents go househunting in texas (sigh). the kids are taking full advantage of the situation...fortunately, they've been going to sleep at bedtime with minimal shenanigans.

behold, the wallace swordsmen!

what is it about boys and swords? is it the power to destroy, conquer, decapitate? jack got a hold of a toy sword, and immediately knew what to do with it, like he had been born to wield one. anyway, the sight of my 14 month old engaging in swordplay with his 5 year old brother totally slayed me (figuratively, of course), and i had to catch it on film.

stuff we like to do, volume one: the zoo

new kc zoo entrance
some of my most favorite memories of the zoo were with my family. i remember my dad taking me to the L.A. and San Diego zoos, and those crazy wax gorillas i always wanted when we left. he always indulged me, and every once in a while i'll smell hot wax, and it will take me back. we've been members of the friends of the zoo in kc since aidan was a baby, and take advantage of that $65 membership every chance we get. even though it's small and it's no san diego zoo, it's our zoo, and we love it!
the meerkats are my faves, although the new north american river otters are super fun...when they're awake. we usually only hit half the zoo each visit...just africa is enough for one day. here's some photos of our most recent trip a couple weeks ago, and some from over the years...
ooooo...the discovery barn!

Our Life

ok, recap continued...here's a "normal" day around the wallace household:

gently wake a well rested mommy from her peaceful slumber...

eat a nutritious breakfast...

engage in healthy, constructive playtime, with lots of sharing and good will...

and the occasional destruction of the living room...

time with friends...

time with family...

dinnertime, replete with good conversation, good company, and yogurt beards...

time for bed...

drumroll please...

well, it's finally happening...i'm putting a post up on this up to now, defunct family blog of ours. i feel like one of those people on the dr. phil show who can't clean her house because her perfectionism is keeping her from picking up the dog poop in her shower and throwing out empty pizza boxes. while no one ever called me a perfectionist, everytime i think of starting, i think of all the stuff i should've posted and where do i start?! well, today, i filled up three bags with clothes that don't fit and are out of style for goodwill, threw away some junk mail from 2006, and started on my blog! yay! here's my recap of the last few months of la vida wallace in a nutshell!
